Mercedes Benz / Volkswagen announced their support for the EU 2035 fuel vehicle sales ban, ambitious but achievable

2022-06-17

On June 15, according to foreign media reports, Volkswagen Group and Mercedes Benz announced that they would support a bill passed by the European Parliament on June 8, which would reduce the carbon dioxide emissions of cars by 100% from 2035. This means that Volkswagen and Mercedes Benz are likely to stop selling models with fuel, diesel and hybrid systems in 2035, so as to completely eliminate carbon dioxide emissions from burning oil.

Volkswagen issued a series of statements on the legislation, calling it "ambitious but achievable", and pointed out that the regulation is "the only reasonable way to replace the internal combustion engine as soon as possible in terms of ecology, technology and economy". Mercedes Benz also supports this legislation. Eckart von klaeden, head of external relations of the group, pointed out that Mercedes is ready to sell 100% of Electric Vehicles by 2030.

In addition to Volkswagen and Mercedes Benz, Ford, Volvo, Audi, Jaguar and other brands have actually planned to stop selling internal combustion engine models before 2035. However, before the new bill is finalized and approved, it must be signed by all 27 EU countries. However, Germany, France and Italy are opposed to this radical regulation, because this bill is likely to have a devastating impact on the traditional fuel vehicle enterprises and the market, and many European traditional vehicle enterprises may gradually decline, thus affecting the economic development of many European countries.
